The Protection of Human Body through Public Health and Hygiene in Relation of Public Hazards

Abstract
This article deals mainly with the profound and widespread impact of various pollutionorigined public hazards turned up as the side -effects of the significant economic development achieved in Korea during the past two decades.
1. As for the issues related to water, there were increasingly apparent pollutions in rivers and waterways caused by plant waste water that have increased in proportion to the industrial development, the more and more home sewage brought about by the concentration of population to the urban areas, stepped up uses of agricultural insecticides and chemical fertilizers. And, because of. these, the sources of potable water for the metropolitan area had to be transferred to further upstream sites. However, the pertinent government authorities are not only strengthening the controls and supervisions for protection of the upstream water qualities, they are now planning to build, by 1986, a new sewage purification terminal as a part of an ambitious collective plan to develop the Han River.
2. As for the air pollution, it should be noted that anthracite coal, among other fuels, constitute the prime fuel in Korea. It is, therefore, urgently hoped that more effective and .safe devices for perfect combustion of the anthracite be developed and widely used among the general public, so that the public could be freed from the hitherto ever-present fear of CO gas apt to be produced by the incomplete combustion of the coal. The use of low-sulphur Bunker Coil, controls over car exhausts, development and general use of more complete dust-collecting devices are also deemed indispensible.
3. As for the noise and vibration hazards, there, are no less problems. There is, if any, little controls over hazardous noises, and noise-absorbent walls are almost non-existent, necessitating stepped-up efforts for development of effective systems in this sector. Antivibration hazards devices are recuired in only a limited fields of the industry, but the present situation is too unsatisfactory and this sector also requires efforts for development of anti-vibration protective devices.
4. In the miscellaneous fields, harmful coloration of, and anticeptics in foods, and abuse of agricultural insecticides and general pharmaceuticals are pointed out to be problematical.
In particular, less hazardous agricultural insecticides should be developed and propagated urgently so that the water resources in the areas where -potable water is taken from underground, should be protected.
